Biography

​

Nicole Martinelli, ​is an internationally acclaimed artist and photographer whose work has been showcased in prestigious gallery exhibition across the United States and Europe. Originally from the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, she now lives in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, drawing inspiration from the local mountains and rural landscapes for her creations. Her photography and hand-painted E artworks have been featured in numerous juried group exhibitions at renowned galleries, including yet not limited to; Brooklyn Waterfront Coalition Gallery, The Marblehead Arts Association in Massachusetts, Core art Space, in Denver Colorado, and the San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild.

Nicole Martinelli has become a strong and influential voice in contemporary art, engaging audiences around the world with her unique creative vision. She has participated in 31 curated gallery exhibitions, with 18 of her original works showcased in respected galleries and two notable museums, Sasse museum of Art, and San Diego Museum of Art.  Her exhibitions span across four countries, America, Italy, Switzerland, and Spain. Highlighingt her expanding global presence and growing impact within the international art community.

Her recognition continues to rise, reflecting the thoughtful concepts, refined technique, and emotional depth that define her work. Martinelli stands out as an emerging artist whose contributions are helping shape the evolving landscape of contemporary art.

​Nicole has achieved both national and  international recognition, receiving awards in various gallery exhibitions, including a notable Gallery Exhibition in Gstaad, Switzerland. Recently, Nicole in a distinguished five-month juried exhibition in the breathtaking Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, showcasing her work alongside artists from around the world.  In July 2025, she is honored to be exhibiting with the prominent gallery,  Rossocinabro Gallery located in the heart of Rome, Italy. Which was Immediately following the  prestigious international gallery exhibition in which she was honored to be exhibited in, ''Woman Power 2025 ,Weaving Dreams, Living Time'' International Gallery Exhibition which was held in the beautiful Puglia region of Italy, Lecce, Italy. Additionally, she is preparing for a solo exhibition with Artifact Gallery in Manhattan, New York.​​

​Nicole Martinelli’s artwork and photography have earned recognition and acceptance from a distinguished roster of jurors across the contemporary art world. Her pieces have been chosen by esteemed experts such as Susan Anderson, Curatorial Research Associate at the Harvard Art Museums, whose scholarship and curatorial leadership in Old Master drawings are internationally respected. Her work has also been selected by Crista Dix, Executive Director and Curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography, a leading institution that presents more than fifty exhibitions each year. In addition, Martinelli’s achievements include selections by Kendall Brinson, Director of Learning and Engagement at the Fuller Craft Museum, whose curatorial influence supports innovation in craft and contemporary art. Further recognition has been granted by renowned multidisciplinary figures including the accomplished New York environmental artist Sandy Gellis, celebrated for sculptural works inspired by water and natural systems. Her photography has additionally captured the attention of jurors such as artist, author, and poet Armando Garcia, as well as legendary musician Billy Corgan, founder of the Grammy Award winning band The Smashing Pumpkins, both of whom have contributed their creative vision and discerning eye to the curation process. Collectively, these distinguished jurors affirm Martinelli’s artistic excellence, reinforcing the credibility, impact, and growing stature of her work within the arts community.

In July 2025, the artist exhibited her work in the International Gallery exhibition, "Future Spaces," at Rossocinabro Gallery  located in beautiful Rome, Italy. Showing Now through  July 1 to August 8, 2025. The Artist is currently preparing for her second gallery exhibition with Rossocinabro Gallery opening in September through January 2026 ​. Nicole has earned national and international recognition, including a prestigious five-month juried show in the Bernese Oberland region in the Swiss Alps in Beautiful prestigious area of Gstaad, Switzerland at Hotel DeRougemont. In July 2025, she exhibited with Rossocinabro Gallery located in the heart of Rome, Italy, and will return for a second exhibition with Rossocinabro Gallery from September 8 to October 2025. Earlier that year, In March 2025 her hand painted  e-paintings were exhibited in Weaving Dreams, Living Time, in May 2025 at the Lecce Arredo Art Expo located in the Puglia region of Italy, Lecce, Italy.

 

The Artist will be returning to Lecce exhibiting her work this December In the interernational gallery exhibition, Le Château Volant, in Lecce Italy. In Spring 2026, her work will be exhibited with VYA Gallery during Madrid Art Week in Spain. The artist is in preparation for her solo exhibition at Artifact Gallery in Manhattan, New York, July through August 2026.

Nicole Martinelli, was originally an oil painter who would use her photography strictly for reference material. Nicole was heavily influenced by the impressionism era of Van Gogh and Monet and started having success locally throughout the Chicago land area in 2014. During this time She was accepted for a solo exhibition at Madame Zuzus, owned by well known exceptionally talented musician and front man of the iconic high profile band, the Smashing Pumpkins,

Serious health issues however forced the Artist to take a break from her art career and focus on regaining her health  and emotional and personal well being with After surviving difficult life  experiences and faced with serious health challenges the artist took a-needed break to focus on her recovery .With the assistance of the compassionate Dr. Phillip Miller whom assisted with gaining her power back, and self confidence, 

Along with the assistance, of her fiance', and the the natural healing power of nature, and her new found artistic passion for photography, she was able to regain her health, her life, and her artsitic career with both resilience, and strength!

The Artist, and Photographer Nicole Martinelli , was originally an oil painter . The Artist captures scenes that resemble that of a painting, being originally a painter. The Artist takes great pride in being able to visually view the world as if it were a painting . It is this very essence that fuels her passion and compels her to capture each scene through her lens. The artist and photographer is celebrated for her distinctive artistic vision, showcasing her extraordinary talent to perceive the world around her as if it were a canvas! This unique ability stems from her early commitment to oil painting, where she would use her photographs as a foundation reference material for her paintings. Her fiancé, raised by a father who was a photographer with a darkroom in their home, was the first to discover her talent for photography when he saw her work during a time of illness that prevented her from painting.​​​

Originally a traditional impressionist painter, the artist found new inspiration in photography during a period of illness, encouraged by her fiancé whom grew up with a father whom was a photographer and had a dark room in his home while growing up. He was the first to notice the artists talent ! Her fiancé encouraged her to dive deeper into photography, leading her on extensive explorations of parks, hiking, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered beyond the usual paths. Through extensive explorations of parks, hiking trails, and concealed beauty off the beaten path waiting to be discovered!

 

 

This renewed chapter in Nicole Martinelli’s artistic journey ignited a fresh wave of creativity, leading to notable early distinctions. In her first two entered juried exhibitions, she earned significant instant acclaim including third place for her photograph SunFlower Fields and second place for Into the Fields (Over the Hills Far Away) Embraced by Blue Skies at the All Landscapes International Exhibition in 2022.

 The artist's photography and E-paintings have earned her recognition nationally and internationally, along with numerous awards, including second and third place at the Contemporary Art Gallery for two consecutive years, 2021 and 2022, during their international juried exhibition, "All Landscapes," where her photographs "Sunflower Fields" and "Over the Hills Far Away, Embraced by Blue Skies" were recognized. In December 2022, Nicole also received an honorable mention for her photographic artwork, "Roots Within This Soil," at the Helvetart International Juried Exhibition located in Geneva "Roots within This Soil."​. Although Martinelli’s original foundation lies in traditional impressionist painting, her re-entry into the art world began through the lens of photography. She quickly recognized that this new medium was not only a natural extension of her artistic ability but also a powerful conduit for her creative voice. Immediate acceptance into juried shows and multiple awards affirmed her extraordinary talent.

Initially, her return to the art world focused solely on photography, a shift from her background a traditional impressionist painter Artist quickly realized her new medium, photography was also a talent and gift that must be shared with the world! Being immediately accepted and winning awards for her Photography she quickly agreed​​

Nicole is an artist and photographer who infuses traditional art with contemporary elements, primarily through her use of vivid colors and natural settings. All of her photographs are captured on location, often found in parks, hiking trails, and hidden gems off the beaten path. While she embraces original scenes, Nicole employs color enhancement intensify the emotional resonance of her subjects, creating a dream-like that enriches the viewer's experience. Her captivating landscapes resemble expressive paintings, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and depth of nature. The Artist, photographer apart from color enhancements, rarely employs other alternative processes in her photographss. Nicole photography is considered to be traditional fine art with a twist of contemporary art elements due to her choice of vivid colors and natural elements. All of Nicole’s photographs are taken on location and found through exhaustive searches of  photographed in parks, hiking trails, and anywhere off the beaten path.

​All of her photographs are the original scene, Nicole uses photo editing software strictly for color enhancement to intensify the feelings in her subject matter as a form of artistic expression, creating a dream-like aspect and sensation within reality Further Enriching the appreciation of the scenery, and ultimately enhancing the viewer's experience! ​ The landscapes she captures captivate her and depict scenes resembling expressive landscape paintings. By utilizing contrast and saturation, she recreates the experience of viewing a painting, depicting scenes that resonate profoundly with her love for impressionism and art. 

 

Her signature use of color enhancements, high contrast, and  vibrant color palette are defining features of her work and are prominently evident in the early years of her photography career. They serve as a distinct form of the artist's artistic expression, giving the viewer an experience that evokes sensations and the essence of observing a painting, thereby enhancing the visual appreciation of the surroundings and scenery, ultimately enhancing the viewer's experience and invoking the intense feeling and sensation of being transported to each particular scene within that moment in time. Discovering the world of photography led the artist to explore photo editing software where a yearning for her original medium, painting, sparked a new creative journey. By experimenting with the painting tools within the software using various sized brushes and a stylus combining her oil painting knowledge, and  Using a stylus as her paintbrush and a touchscreen laptop as her canvas, she birthed a unique art form, the hand-painted digital painting.

Nicole Martinelli, is an award-winning international artist and photographer has been featured in prominent galleries across the U.S. and Europe. ​​The artist and photographer Nicole Martinelli's art has evolved throughout the years since her official artistic debut. Her difficult health circumstances prompted her to seek solace, peace, and comfort in nature, allowing her to fully explore her creative artistic expression through photography. She became more open-minded to different mediums and styles of artistic expression.

Over the past few years, Nicole Martinelli has broadened her artistic portfolio by venturing further into new mediums, exploring previously uncharted creative territories, including the development of hand-painted E-paintings using a stylus.  in May 2023, she unveiled her innovative new art form with the painting "Navajo Nights Indigo Dreams," which gained her immediate acceptance into the prestigious Marblehead Arts Gallery as part of the Variations 2023 exhibition, out of 800 submissions. Soon after, in June 2023, she earned a third place award for her E-painting. She recently achieved another third place international award in July 2023 at a Juried International Abstract Exhibition located in Geneva, Switzerland, for her hand-created E-painting titled "Aztec Lucid Dreams." "Aztec Lucid Dreams" achieved third place in an International Juried Abstract Exhibition based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Later, in November 2023, the same piece was accepted by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition Gallery (BWAC) in Brooklyn, New York, by juror and poet Armando Garcia. More recently, in Spring 2024, her artworks "Requiem of the Flowers" and "Nostalgic Terrain Floral Daydream" were chosen for the prestigious San Diego Museum Artist Guild (SDMAAG) Spring Exhibition in San Diego, California. This selection was made by the distinguished juror who holds the position of Associate Curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for inclusion in this prestigious exhibition.

The artist's work was accepted and exhibited in a prestigious five-month international Juried exhibition located in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps in Gstaad, Switzerland. The International Gallery Exhibition showcases the artist's work alongside forty artists from various countries, including but not limited to Switzerland. France, Italy, Malta, the United Kingdom, Poland and Greece. I believe in Protecting and deeply appreciating Nature in its untouched, natural element is not merely a choice, but I feel a vital necessity for all living beings . Beyond simply living off its resources, there is profound value and wisdom in striving to live in harmony with the natural world. Being surrounded by nature offers an essential sanctuary, of happiness solace and peace providing life long benefits that nourish our physical health and enhance our mental well-being.

I genuinely believe that nature has been a significant force in my life, guiding me and helping me navigate through considerable physical and emotional challenges. This transformative support, the deep healing and inner tranquility I’ve discovered within the natural world, has instilled in me a strong sense of purpose. As an artist, I see it not just as a choice but as a profound responsibility to express these experiences through my work. My art is devoted to communicating these essential messages of healing, resilience, and the deep inner peace that the environment and nature offer—not just for me, but for everyone—encouraging others to find solace, strength, and healing in the natural world!

As an artist and photographer, I feel it is my obligation to capture and create beauty through both my photographs and artworks. As a Photographer, I am simply encapsulating and presenting the viewer with the beautiful imagery nature provides us all. Capturing the feelings and beauty that resonate within my own presence, in that particular moment of time that are embodied in each of my photographs.  This allows for the viewers to appreciate the world through my eyes and the opportunity to stay within that moment, where time is of no existence.

''As an E-painter I am essentially incorporating my previous painting skills as an oil painter with my technical knowledge acquired from Digital Photography. I create my E-Paintings organically from my mind while using my stylus as my brush and, my touch screen laptop as if it were my Canvas.​ As an artist I believe in advancing with the current times and using this technology to my advantage. I do not believe however in being used by the technology. Having a hands on approach every step of the creative process is essential to myself as an artist. The circumstances that  assisted in creating Nicole Martinelli to become

  The Artist and Photographer she is Today

The Artist is honored and grateful for all she has been blessed with these last few years

that have occurred thanks to her artistic gifts  she has been blessed with . She lived through a very bleak time period in her life

through serious severe health illness and other very difficult circumstances that she survived.

She feels that in a way that these circumstances she found the strength and courage to live through  and Survive, were a blessing in disguise, due to her artistic focus shift in her mediums from painting to photography which has gained her recent artistic attention not only locally but nationally and internationally The Artists sudden shift in mediums occurred  due to the difficult circumstances she was faced with The Artist is thankful to be Alive and healthy once more and be able to share her love for nature

''You have the power to transform your struggles, pain ,and the storms in your life into something beautiful and the ability channel your negative emotions from these difficult life experiences into a more positive outlet. Dwelling on my the past only brought more sorrow. My healing journey began through my deep connection to nature, and art I decided to finally have the courage to believe in myself and to pursue my dreams rather then allowing my difficult life experiences to break me . I learned to take the emotions from my painful difficult life experiences and channeled it into something positive. My two loves that have always brought me solace and inner peace Nature and my art. If you're not happy with your current life's story's outcome, learn to take the pain and the dirt of yesterdays sorrows from these difficult life experiences and view them as an opportunity to grow from these difficult life experiences and use the knowledge gained from the experiences to propel and transform your life into something more positive fulfilling ,and beautiful! Allow these difficult life experiences to empower you, rather than defeat you Believe in yourself, because you are worth it, No one else will believe in you until you do. If you're unhappy with your current life situation or circumstances remember that you always hold the power to write a new chapter one that fills you with joy, gratitude, peace and happiness!
